Bow Street Tavern

Boasting a fantastically central location right opposite the Royal Opera House in the heart of ‘Theatreland’, this iconic Covent Garden pub dates from 1763 and, through its original link with Bow Street Magistrates Court, was witness to the formation of the Bow Street Runners, widely acknowledged to be Britain’s first police force. The pub was almost certainly used by them and has a cell in the basement that was used to house prisoners!

Decorated throughout with fascinating historical artefacts, the Bow Street Tavern’s five floors offer a choice of spaces for any social gathering or event. Whether you pop in for a drink on the Gin Terrace, a quick pre-theatre dinner or a more relaxed dining experience, they look forward to welcoming you soon. There’s something for everyone whether you are looking for an intimate dinner with your loved ones, host team meetings, gin tasting or multi space event over some or all floors. The team at Bow Street Tavern is on hand to take the stress of organising out of your hands.

An oasis in the heart of central London, the rooftop lets you take in views of the Royal Opera House and surrounding area. With an English Garden it truly feels like you’re miles away from the hustle and bustle of Theatreland. Rooftop is available all year round with an awning, outdoor heaters and a seated space inside if the weather is unkind.

The garden room located on the fourth floor is a stylish new addition to Bow Street. Adorned with antique botanical prints and plates it also boasts your very own drinks trolley! In the wintery months what better way to start your party than to use the rooftop for drinks then down to the garden room for your meal. Why not create your own music playlist which can be played throughout the room.

One of the quirkiest spaces at the Bow Street Tavern is the ‘Inspector’s Office’ because it’s like an old- fashioned office equipped with board games, armchairs and your very own fridge full of goodies. There’s a turntable (stocked full of vinyl) and typewriters should you feel the need to write a quick note to someone. Ideal for meetings to host your important conferences with use of the TV, WIFI & Microphone. They will also provide you pencils & papers.

The Fielding room is a quintessential English dining room. Adorned in William Morris wallpaper it’s the perfect spot for large parties. The room can be decorated for your unique style & give you the personal touch to ensure you will have the best day. This space is sometimes used for larger parties alongside the Gin Terrace.

With its own dedicated bar, covered outside space and hanging plants, the Gin Terrace is great spot to drink or dine whatever the weather. The Bow Street Tavern take gin pretty seriously with over 30 varieties all with their own hand selected garnishes and tonic.

Food and Drink:

The menu focuses on British classics done well from cider battered fish and chips to steak and ale pie. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered with quiche, gnocchi and the “bleeding” vegan Moving Mountains burger. Sunday roasts are covered as well with a large selection of meat and vegetarian and vegan options. For larger groups there are sharing boards and scotch eggs available on the bar. The children’s menu below is available until 8pm. The pub is proud to support some of London’s best brewers such as Beavertown, Camden, Portobello and Sambrooks.
